How it works

Every word on Wordle's original answer list (2,315 words) that still fits all your colours is a candidate, and each is taken as equally likely. A guess splits the candidates into groups by the colours it would show; the best guess is the one that leaves the fewest guesses to finish on average.

After SALET in normal mode the helper follows a precomputed decision tree that is provably optimal: an exhaustive search over all 12,972 accepted guesses at every step. It solves every answer in at most five guesses, 3.421 on average, matching Bertsimas and Paskov, An Exact Solution to Wordle (Operations Research, 2025).

Anywhere else (another first word, Hard Mode, a different second guess) it works live in the background: with up to 100 candidates it searches exactly; with more it scores every accepted guess by the groups it makes and estimates the rest. Numbers marked ≈ are estimates, ≥ are lower bounds.

If no word on the original list fits, the answer may be one the New York Times added later, and every accepted guess that fits is counted instead (shown in italics).

The human strategy is the one from the well-known video: SLANT, then PRICE if SLANT was mostly grey, then any word that fits. It is scored as a random pick among the words that fit.
