What each ghost is aiming at
Blinky targets your tile. He is the one behind you, and he speeds up as the maze empties.
Pinky targets four tiles ahead of you — so she cuts you off. When you face up she aims four tiles up and four to the left: the original's overflow bug, kept.
Inky takes the line from Blinky to two tiles ahead of you and doubles it. He is the only one who depends on another ghost, which is why he swings wide.
Clyde chases you until he is within eight tiles, then loses his nerve and runs for his corner.
Every so often all four give up and head for their own corner — that is scatter, and it is your window. Ghosts never reverse by choice; they turn only at tile centres, and there are four tiles where they are forbidden to turn upward.
